The 39th Running of the Rodes City Run 10K

The Rodes City Run 10K, the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown of Running in Louisville, will take place on Saturday March 9, 2019.  The Rain or Shine event begins at 8:00 am at 1st and Broadway.  If you haven’t registered, there’s no need to panic.  In fact, Late Registration/Packet Pick-up is Friday, March 8th from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm at Louisville Slugger’s lobby.  Packets may also be picked up at the 5th Street Parking Garage from 6:00 am to 7:30 am on race day, March 9th.

The race began in 1981 and all proceeds from this event are donated to the WHAS Crusade for Children.  The 3-race series has raised more than $1.8 million for the worthy cause since 2002.  In a nutshell, the WHAS Crusade for Children raises money for agencies, schools, & hospitals to make a better life for children with special needs.  Millions of children have been helped by the Crusade since 1954.

To give you an idea of the actual course, it basically runs from Broadway and heads east toward Baxter Avenue, Cherokee Road and Grinstead Drive.  From there the 6.2 mile route extends to Lexington Road, back to Baxter & East Chestnut, then to Campbell and from there to the starting point on Broadway.

There are ample water stations and portable toilets along the way for the comfort of the runners/walkers.  Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 5 overall in each gender & the top 5 wheelchair entrants.   The top 3 in each age group will also receive cash prizes.  The race starts at 8:00 am and officially ends at 10:00 am.  Make it a point to register for the run or just come out and support the participants and the Crusade for Children.
