'Tis the Season to be Thankful

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it seems the right time to examine our lives and be thankful for our many blessings.  Some things that might come to mind are how blessed we are with families, friends, and good health.  But what about technology?  Yes … technology.  How in the world did we ever manage without it?  Here are some reasons why we should be forever thankful for all the new and ever-changing technology we have available to us.  Let’s touch on a few points.

  1.  Life is easier!  Repeat that, please.  Life is easier!  Whether you are checking your work email or sitting in on a meeting while in traffic, the phone is your lifeline.  Or how about doing your Christmas shopping or ordering your lunch online or, even more important, keeping tabs on your teenagers?  Technology simplifies the process.  That’s not to say it doesn’t get annoying when everyone is either on their tablet, phone, etc. But you have to admit, it is simpler.
  2.  The Information Highway is at our fingertips.  Some of us might remember the “old” days when we did our homework with a set of Encyclopedia Britannica.  Those reference books were huge and cumbersome but you could EVENTUALLY find what you were looking for.  Or you could go to the library and search via microfiche, a flat piece of film that contained pages of a newspaper or other documents.  Nowadays you can just ask Siri anything like the score of last night’s game or where the nearest McDonald’s is.
  3. Technology keeps us in touch!  Although it can be argued that we’ve gone a little too far with the whole social media thingy, you can find and stay in touch with more people more frequently if you like.
  4. It does save us time and money.  The internet has done wonders for the consumer.  In minutes, you can search and compare products and services without making a single phone call.  Comparison shopping has never been so easy.  Add to the fact you can order just about anything online and have it shipped right to your door is not only amazing but convenient as well.
  5. Technology has not bypassed the print industry.  Even copiers aren’t just copiers any more.  They can produce brilliant color and pull double-duty as network printers & digital scanners.

So, in the spirit of things, technology is a good thing.  What are we most grateful for?  We are indebted to those of you who trust us enough to keep your office equipment up-to-date with this fast paced world in which we live.  Happy Thanksgiving!
